Why Join HRYC?

Easy to Join (and Inexpensive)

Joining Hood River Yacht Club is easy. Prospective members need to meet three requirements:

First, a member must have a strong interest in boating. You do not have to own a boat, and you do not have to live in the Gorge.

Second, a new member must be sponsored by an existing HRYC member in good standing with the club. If you do not know any HRYC club members yet, don't worry--we'll be glad to help get you acquainted with some of our friendly members. Use the "Contact Us" page to e-mail our Membership Director, and we'll get in touch with you!

Third, members must pay modest yearly dues. Currently, full members pay $85 per year, associate members (no voting rights) pay $50 per year. A family membership is available for $120 (two votes per family).  Dues are collected on a calendar year basis (i.e. dues are collected when the member joins the club, and then are due on January 1 of each following year).

Joining a full US Sailing Member Club doesn’t get much easier or cheaper than that! Click on the "Join Us" link on the menu at left to get your application started today.

If you're already a member of another yacht club, we still encourage you to join HRYC--our modest dues make it easy to join, and you'll be supporting sailing and boating in the Gorge!

US Sailing Member Club

HRYC is a full club member of US Sailing.

As a member of HRYC, you have racing privileges at regattas throughout the United States--all for a very modest membership fee!

Year Round Social Events

The HRYC is comprised of friendly, easy going sailors and boaters. While competition sometimes gets intense on the water, we make sure we all have fun at the dock.

Our social calendar includes a great Holiday Party every December, a Holiday Boat Parade, post-race barbecues in the summer and lots of other fun events.

Racing in the Gorge

The Hood River Yacht Club sponsors a full racing calendar from April through October.

If you haven't sailed the Gorge in the summertime, you don't know what you are missing. Come prepared for a combination of gear breaking gusts and drifter lulls, sometimes in the same race! Regardless of the wind, there's no better way to spend a summer evening in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

The Club's most popular event is the weekly Wednesday night race in Hood River. Join us every Wednesday from April until October!

The club also sponsors a number of point to point and buoy races, including the famous "Red D" race from Hood River to Cascade Locks (and back).

HRYC is also building its calendar of one-design events to attract boats from up and down the West Coast, including the Moore 24 National Championships.

Cruising in the Gorge

HRYC sponsors a number of cruising events every year up and down the Columbia River -- sailboats and powerboats welcome.

Boating Advocacy

HRYC and its members help protect boaters' rights in the Gorge. With all the competing interests for the Columbia and its shoreline, boaters need a strong voice to defend boaters' access to the river.

HRYC works closely with the Port of Hood River and other groups, including the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association and the Kiteboarding Association.

Community Outreach

Hood River Yacht Club is renewing its efforts to be an active, involved member of the Gorge community. The club aims to broaden the reach of sailing and boating to include all socioeconomic groups in the Gorge.

In addition, through its organized sailing events, HRYC aims to help bring tourist revenue to Hood River and surrounding communities. By hosting events such as the Moore 24 National Championships, the club brings hundreds of guests to the Hood River area every year.

HRYC Dry Storage

Hood River Yacht Club has a limited number of dry storage, mast-up spaces available at very reasonable rates to members in good standing in its facility at the Hood River Marina. If you are interested in signing up for a dry storage space, please contact the Commodore by email.  Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If a space is available for your boat you will receive a lease contract to complete and return with payment in advance for your full quarterly or yearly term.  Spaces are available for kayaks, rowing shells, canoes and similar boats up to trailered boats 30' long.
