Kryptonite -- 5o5

Back in September I discovered that the mast doesn't like to be stuck in the mud.  Being a bit too accustomed to sailing in the deep water of the Los Angeles Harbor, I wasn't attuned to the risk of flipping the boat on a low water day in Cascade Locks.

 

The capsize that caused this was unfortunately not spectacular--no good stories to tell there.  I guess when a powerboat tows you out of the muck with its 70hp engine on full throttle, bad things are bound to happen to the slender, cut, tapered and welded top section of the venerable Proctor D.  (You would have thought they would design these mast things better. :-)
