Santa Cruz 27 new to Hood River
Scott Vincik
I am planning to bring my Santa Cruz 27 to Hood River next summer to sail and race.

-I need help with the best option for moorage. Dry storage? Hood River Marina? Cascade Locks?

-I need advice from owners of similar boats about the best way to ramp launch the boat and raise and lower the mast without a hoist.

-I am a beginning sailor. I would like to find experienced people to help me race the boat.

What I can bring....

A Santa Cruz 27 in well maintained condition.

I can commit to being available for the entire Wednesday night race series from April through October, as well as select weekends like the Double Damned. I work as an RN, and have approval to work weekends all summer.

I will be planning to sail Mon-Thurs all summer long, which will give me an intensive summer of learning to handle the boat.

I have a background of working as an RN, a decade of experience as a mechanic mostly in ski resorts, and three summers of Yosemite rescue. I am a climber, skier, and bicyclist. I have been paragliding for the last seven years and recently stopped doing that. I'm very excited to learn to sail, and would appreciate the help.

Hey there. You will want to get yourself on the waiting list for a slip at the Hood River Marina ASAP, as it can take over a year to get a spot.

We have a group of Express 27, J27, and Moore 24 owners who are in a very similar situation with regards to ramp launching full-keel boats. If they don’t chime in, I can send you some people’s contact info.

Which SC27 is this? Is it coming up from Santa Cruz or down from Puget Sound? I used to race on several Santa Cruz 27s including Rob Schuyler’s Hanalei and Evan Diola’s Mistress Quickly, so maybe some of their skill rubbed on on me a little bit.

Welcome to the Gorge!

This is lil' Toonces from Anacortes. Now renamed Galdrabok, because Santa Cruz boats should all have names of conjurors and magic.

I'll get on the waiting list, but that doesn't solve the problem for this spring.

Please come sail on my boat

I am not planning on dropping in our boat until Speedy gets here.  I would be willing to sublet my slip until some time in June.
